Currently continuing developing the practical aspect of this research - writing music for Intolerance Clip 2 (The Feast of Belshazaar). Some of the issues that I have encountered are the following:
- Tonal vs Atonal; since this is a project considering ethnic authenticity and experimentation, to what extent should I use both? Atonal orchestration with ethnic instruments seems to create bizarre textures that are not well suited to the visuals. At the moment trying to find the correct 'bond' between both's proximity.
- Blending the classical orchestra with ethnic instruments has started with the introduction of the cimbalom in my compositions.
- My first composition is leaning towards the use of classical orchestra instruments but in a different way; present evidence of exoticism without the use of ethnic instruments seems to be quite a challenge.
